Mead and fruit wines available from the Cornish Mead Company are produced to a recipe reviving the ancient art of mead-making, preserved for centuries in the monasteries of Old England. The Company has been making mead in Cornwall since 1959. (tel: 01736 363942)

BREAKING NEWS!
After over 50 years in production, we have launched a radical new design of bottle in 2011. We employed Gendall Design, a top Cornish design company, to create a new image to go with our change of bottle, initially in the 75cl range only. The new designs are innovative and eye catching and we hope you like them. Of course, the contents remains the same unique product we have produced for over 50 years!

Mead itself, a traditional honey-flavoured wine, is available in two styles. Cornish Mead Wine at 14 % ABV and Cornish Mead Liqueur at 17 % ABV. The fruit meads, of which blackberry is the most popular, followed by elderberry, strawberry, peach, apricot and cherry flavours, are all at 17% ABV.

Cornish Mead has been renowned for years as ‘The Honeymoon Drink’, and more recently the Company has registered the trademark ‘Love Potion’. This consists of the full strength mead wine served with ice and lemonade.

When you drink “Cornish Mead”, you are drinking … History.
Before any other alcoholic drink was thought of, Mead was being drunk in the great halls and palaces of England, a fit toast for heroes. The making of Mead was an art preserved for centuries inside the monasteries. When these were dissolved by Henry VIII, the drinking of Mead fell into disuse until recent times when the ancient recipes have been revived in Cornwall, and Mead is being rediscovered by a new generation of Englishmen.

When you drink, “Cornish Mead” you are drinking … Love.
The association between Mead and marriage goes back to pagan times when the custom was for the happy couple to drink honey wine at their wedding and for a month afterwards, from which we derive the word ‘Honeymoon’.Indeed, “Cornish Mead” is renowned to this day as the honeymoon drink. As well as its health and energy-giving properties, Mead has gained a reputation as an aphrodisiac. We recommend individual research by our customers into this aspect of this delicious drink.

When you drink “Cornish Mead” you are drinking … Nature.
Honey is the chief ingredient, giving Mead its distinctive, Summery taste. Grape-juice and other natural products go to make up a drink full of health and goodness, blending to highlight the flavour born of the flowers.”Cornish Mead” is served in two strengths: Mead Wine and Liqueur Mead. It has been a favourite in the West Country for many years now, and more people all over the country are discovering it every day. Be the next!

The first Meadery opened in 1965 in a converted cinema in Newlyn. Initially it just sold a selection of fruit wines and Cornish Mead wine. Later that year, catering began with very limited cooking facilities which only took two whole chickens which were then cut in half and served with chips. The first year, the most meals served in one night was thirty two. Over the years this has increased until now as many as four hundred people could be served in one night.

St. Agnes Meadery was opened in 1984. Originally built in granite as a cinema in 1881, the building subsequently became a puppet theatre before being converted into a Meadery. The Meadery is located in the heart of the village of St. Agnes on the rugged North Cornish coast, renowned for its beaches and surfing. Conveniently located for Newquay and Perranporth and just a couple of miles from the Chiverton roundabout on the A30, free car parking is available just 200 metres away.

A friendly smile and a warm welcome await you at our candlelit medieval themed family restaurant where you can eat with your fingers from wooden platters.

Popular with both locals and holidaymakers alike, we cater for large parties and welcome families and children. There is disabled access at the side of the building.

Dine in the King’s surroundings, see the magic sword in the stone and be served by his wenches. Feast your delights at his round table and relish the generous portions and variety of dishes the Meadery chef has to offer. King Arthur’s Meadery is fun for all the family from toddlers to grandparents. Situated only five minutes from Falmouth, the quaint Cornish village of Budock Water is an ideal setting for this medieval restaurant. So travel back in time and enjoy the magic of King Arthur’s Meadery

The legend of King Arthur is a firm favorite with its Cornish connections. Here at King Arthur’s Meadery the huge round table and the sword in the stone are just part of the medieval ambience. The scene is set for a medieval banquet: candlelight, serving wenches, wooden platters and even coats of arms and shields adorning the walls. The mead is flowing, the food is great, so what are you waiting for?

Originally a chapel, the King Arthur’s Meadery opened in 1996 and is the smallest of our Meaderies.

Relax and enjoy a drink in our spacious bar with stunning views across Mounts Bay. Then move through to our pirate themed restaurant complete with galleons and pirates climbing the rigging above your heads.

Branwells Mill is steeped in history. Originally a mill and corn store as its name suggests, when it was built it was only about fifty metres from the quay and windjammers from as far afield as Russia brought cereals to the mill. Later on, Alf Parker developed it into a department store and also made world class banjos in a small factory on the top floor. Their trademark was a small abalone seahorse set into the head piece.

The building was converted again by the Cornish Mead Company in the nineteen eighties. The Meadery, located on the top floor and conveniently served by a lift, opened in 1989.

The Meadery is a lively fun venue with where you can eat with your fingers off wooden serving platters served by costumed serving wenches so come on down and enjoy the atmosphere. A salad bar and vegetarian options are also available.

A private room is available for special events.

The Meadery is located conveniently opposite Penzance railway station. There is also a large public car park across the road.
